WhatsApp Now Supports Sending and Receiving Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin (LTC) via Lite.Im Bot

In a tweet published on Sunday, May 19, it has been revealed that WhatsApp now allows its users to send and/or receive Bitcoin [BTC] and Litecoin [LTC]. Apparently, users also have the ability to earn BTC by inviting friends to the instant messaging app.

Per Bitcoin News outlet, Bitcoinist also reported on this matter and shared details regarding how it all works. As per the claims made, users are required to add the Lite.IM WhatsApp bot and choose options that fit one’s needs via the different prompts (either in English or in Spanish).

It seems like BTC and LTC aren’t the only two cryptocurrencies that WhatsApp supports, as Twitter user, Tycjan Gniew shared the following:

The Zulu Republic Team previously reported that the Lite.IM was first introduced about five months ago. In addition to one’s ability to send and receive cryptocurrencies through WhatsApp, the team also supports its services for other social media platforms such as Facebook Messenger and Telegram.

Here’s what the team had to say about their endeavor at the time:

“This is a huge step forward for the platform, which just two short weeks ago rolled out support for Bitcoin. But it’s also a huge step forward for cryptocurrency adoption in general: the combined 2.5 billion users of Facebook and Telegram, and all those with basic SMS capabilities. […] We think this is a huge development for the cryptocurrency space, and we hope you’ll agree.”

As it turns out, WhatsApp users outweigh the rest, as the instant messaging app alone carries 1.5 billion users worldwide. This move is definitely a big one, considering that it enforces crypto adoption on a global basis, as opposed to targeting people country by country. This method is expected to simplify the overall process in sending and receiving crypto. If successful, crypto exposure is going to continue to moon and the price of bitcoin will once again shine.
